Chrome browser is out of date — extension won't activate at all

The extension is installed and 'Site access' is set to 'All sites,' but it still doesn't run on Tekmetric pages.

Problem

The extension is installed and 'Site access' is set to 'All sites,' but it still doesn't run on Tekmetric pages. Closing/reopening the extension and Chrome doesn't help.

Cause

The Chrome browser itself is too old to run the current extension manifest. Chrome isn't recognizing the extension's permissions correctly.

Resolution

  1. Reinstall Chrome from https://www.google.com/chrome/ — this forces an update to the latest version.
  2. Fully restart Chrome after install.
  3. Confirm the Shift extension version is current (see 'Update the Shift extension' article).
  4. If still failing, schedule a remote troubleshooting session with Shift support — we can use TeamViewer (https://download.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewer_Setup_x64.exe) to diagnose live.
