Maintenance recommendations or inspection items won't transfer to the Tekmetric repair order

You see services or inspection findings in Shift, but clicking to add them to the repair order does nothing — the items don't appear on the Tekmetric estimate or inspection.

Problem

You see services or inspection findings in Shift, but clicking to add them to the repair order does nothing — the items don't appear on the Tekmetric estimate or inspection.

Cause

Most often the user is on the inspection tab in Tekmetric instead of the estimate tab — the transfer only works on the estimate tab. Other common causes: the inspection 'shell' was previously deleted, custom inspection mapping is misconfigured, or the extension is out of sync.

Resolution

  1. Confirm you are on the ESTIMATE tab in Tekmetric, not the inspection tab.
  2. Close and reopen the Shift extension, then refresh the Tekmetric page.
  3. If the inspection was previously deleted from the RO, re-add the inspection 'shell' on the Tekmetric side first — Shift only populates the fields, it doesn't create the inspection itself.
  4. If specific categories (e.g., brake fluid, coolant flush, cabin air filter) consistently fail to transfer, the issue is usually category-name mapping — see the 'Mapping custom inspection items' article.
  5. If transfers still fail, send support the RO number and the service that's failing.
