Mapping custom inspection items (brake fluid, coolant flush, cabin air filter, etc.)
Specific service categories aren't transferring to your custom Tekmetric inspection, or they land in the wrong section (e.g., coolant service shows up under 'Miscellaneous').
Problem
Specific service categories aren't transferring to your custom Tekmetric inspection, or they land in the wrong section (e.g., coolant service shows up under 'Miscellaneous'). Common offenders: engine coolant drain/flush, brake fluid, cabin air filter.
Cause
Custom inspection mapping is sensitive to the exact category-name string in Tekmetric. Extra spaces, dashes, or slight name mismatches break the mapping. Custom inspections also need to be enabled by the Shift team on a per-shop basis.
Resolution
- Go to Settings → 'Map Inspections' in the Shift web app (https://app.shift-automotive.io/settings).
- Note: only the shop admin can edit these mappings. If the option isn't available, ask your admin to make the change.
- Verify each Shift category is mapped to the correct Tekmetric inspection field.
- Check the Tekmetric category name for trailing spaces or extra characters — these are the most common cause of mapping failures.
- If a category still isn't transferring, send the exact Tekmetric inspection name to Shift support — we can fix mismatches on our side.
- Note: shops cannot add their own custom categories. This is intentional so that completed services get correctly attributed across vehicles. We do consider new categories on request — send a list to support.
